Tonight, we witnessed something truly incredible—a community coming together, standing up for what’s right, and winning.
At the special TVUSD board meeting, convened specifically to address the district administration’s stated intent to phase out girls’ field hockey, we prevailed. And not just by a little—the support was overwhelming, the voices were powerful, and the board responded in kind.
A Night of Passion & Purpose
Nearly 200 people filled the room, with dozens of student-athletes leading the charge. It wasn’t just a crowd—it was a movement. Almost 40 speakers took to the podium, with about half of them being students.
And those student speeches? They stole the show.
One after another, young athletes stepped forward to speak from the heart—sharing personal stories, highlighting lost opportunities, and making it crystal clear just how much girls’ field hockey has shaped their lives.
Parents and coaches followed, delivering messages that ranged from persuasive and heartfelt to outright frustration and anger at the way this decision was made. The passion in the room was undeniable.
The Board’s Response: A Pledge of Support
And then, in a moment that won’t soon be forgotten, the board listened.
They didn’t just hear us—they understood us.
In an unanimous vote, the board committed to saving girls’ field hockey effective immediately, overriding the district administration’s push to phase it out. They also pledged their ongoing future support for the program.
As the decision was announced, the room erupted in applause. A standing ovation swept through the crowd—a mix of relief, gratitude, and triumph.
What This Means Moving Forward
This victory wasn’t just about field hockey—it was about fairness, opportunity, and the power of a united community.
To everyone who emailed, spoke, attended, and fought for this cause – YOU made this happen. The student-athletes, their families, the coaches, and the supporters who stood alongside them proved that voices matter.
This is what advocacy looks like.
