I was so disappointed to learn that the athletic department of the Temecula Valley School District wants to discontinue the girls’ field hockey program, and I would like to know their reasons for making this decision. One thing is for sure as far as I can see; the cost of the program is very low for the school district.
Sports are so important for high school students. They all need exercise and a break from their studies. In addition, they learn time management because they have to do their homework even if they might sometimes have early practices or late games.
Team spirit has developed between the coaches and the students, and that is so important in life. And team sports help ready students for college.
I was so happy when I learned that my grandaughter had chosen to play field hockey because I played it myself in my native country in my youth.
In summary, in my opinion, field hockey has taught my granddaughter time management, introduced her to team spirit, and given her plenty of exercise with new skills. Her grades are good, and field hockey has given her the opportunity to be better prepared for college.
